Can two duplicate item numbers be merged into one? If so, does the order history follow or is it lost?

Greg Holland If no order or transaction history has been entered against an item, the duplicate item can be made inactive. If only orders have been entered for a duplicate item, but the orders haven't been processed yet (i.e. no transactions), the order can be deleted or the item can be removed from the order to allow inactivating the duplicate item.
If multiple orders and transactions have been entered against an item, however, the only recourse you have is to adjust the inventory to zero for the duplicate item, remove it from all open orders, and then inactivate. There's no way to merge the 2 item numbers and their transaction history. If this is your situation, you might consider entering the items as item substitutes of one another so the cross-reference information is more readily available. You also may be able to use the short description, long description, or Planning Notes field to store cross-reference information depending on how visible you want it to be. With the cross-reference information, you will at least have an option to lookup the order history on the other item to combine with the remaining active item.
